INVASION DAY 2010

Australia day is the day on which the first fleet descended upon Sydney

harbor in 1788. There is a strange idea of ‘patriotism’ connected with this

date (Australia Day), forgetting that for Aboriginal people this signifies

the beginning of an era of Pain, Fear, Confusion and the Beginning of the end

of their way of life and culture (DREAMING).

Making their unique imprint in the Australian fashion scene is Bondi label Pete Versus Toby.  Creating not only fun, whitty designs, the label also has a serious side.  This range – INVASION DAY – is one which puts the focus on what  AUSTRALIA DAY really is:

This range is definitely dedicated to fashion with a conscience  …

Robyn Black

Tucked away in her sunny Fitzroy studio, Melbourne womenswear designer ROBYN BLACK works tirelessly creating impeccable + cutting edge collections.

New Zealand born and raised, Robyn Black moved to Australia in 1998 and it wasn’t long before Robyn began her eponymous label, ROBYN BLACK.  Her work is coveted by many Melbourne women who have discovered her signature aesthetic and like myself, have instantly fallen in love!

The Robyn Black aesthetic has been described as being truly ‘Melbourne’ and I also have to agree.  Her palette usually consists of blacks + pure whites as a backdrop to exquisite soft colours and textures, and she is most definitely ahead of her time.

Currently, the Robyn Black label is sold exclusively @ The Signet Bureau boutique, 165 Gertrude Street, Fitzroy 3065 {+61 39415 7470} Australia.

I will be featuring an interview with her in our upcoming issue of TFB, (out 1st October), so stay tuned 🙂
